SASSA Reapplication

SASSA reapplication is the process of reapplying for the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant. You can reapply for the SRD R370 if your initial grant period has expired (6 months), if your previous application was rejected, cancelled, suspended, or if your circumstances have changed and you now meet all eligibility criteria. Meeting the eligibility means you no longer receive UIF, NSFAS, or other grants, and your income is below R624 per month.

Documents Required for Reapplication

To complete your reapplication for the SRD Grant, you will need your South African Smart ID card number and the cellphone number registered to your name. You will also have to provide your current personal details and correct banking details for payment.

Before you begin, you must cancel existing SRD applications linked to your ID number. Submitting multiple applications will not increase your chances and will result in an automatic decline. You can remove any existing R350 application through the online portal.

SASSA Reapplication Online Process

You can submit your application through the official SASSA portal using the given steps for a complete and accurate process.

SASSA will send you an SMS with a secure link to verify your ID. Follow it to capture a live selfie and submit it on the official portal.

Once your reapplication is complete, you will receive a confirmation message with your new reference number. Save it to track your status.

Processing Time for SASSA Reapplication

After you submit your SRD reapplication, the review and decision process can take up to 90 days. In some cases, it is processed faster and reviewed within a few weeks. In other cases, it takes the full 3 months. During this time, SASSA checks your details against government databases, including Home Affairs, NSFAS, SARS, and UIF, to verify your status. If the review confirms that you still qualify under the current requirements, your grant will be approved.

Check Your Reapplication Status

To stay updated, you can check your SASSA reapplication status online on the official SASSA SRD website. Visit https://srd.sassa.gov.za and enter your South African ID number and the same phone number you used when submitting your reapplication. SASSA updates your status after verifying your identity, income, and banking details using government systems. If there is any change, it will appear on the status page, and you will be informed through SMS.

Once your status shows approved, it means your reapplication was successful, and you will start receiving your monthly grant. Payments are usually backdated to the month in which your reapplication was submitted. We advise you to check the SASSA payment dates page to know when your approved grant will be paid.

What to Do If Your Reapplication Is Declined

After receiving the decline notice from SASSA for your reapplication, you can proceed with the formal appeal. To submit your SASSA appeal online, follow the authorized appeal procedure. This allows you to request the Independent Tribunal for Social Assistance Appeals (ITSAA) to review your reapplication and the decision made on your circumstances.

Appealing gives you another opportunity to have your case assessed independently. Once ITSAA reviews your case and approves your appeal, SASSA will pay the grant for the previously declined months and continue paying you monthly as an approved beneficiary.
