Why Social Relief of Distress Grant Has Multiple Payment Dates

SASSA has spread the SRD grant across multiple dates for monthly payout because the system supports more than 9 million beneficiaries. Paying everyone on a single day would overwhelm the system, especially with different payment methods in use. For this reason, SASSA schedules SRD payments in the last week of each month, usually between the 24th and 30th, to keep the system stable and release payments without technical disruptions.

SASSA Grant Amount Increased for 2026

SASSA grant amounts increased on April 1, 2026, following the national budget presented in February, confirming the increases for the 2026/2027 financial year (April 2026–March 2027). The next adjustment is expected on October 1, 2026. Further increases in social grant amounts depend on Treasury decisions reflecting inflation forecasts and budget constraints.
