After you apply for a social grant or the SRD R370, SASSA provides you with a unique Application ID (AppID), also known as your reference number. This six-digit reference number serves as proof of your application and is essential for managing your grant. You will need it for these purposes.

Check Your SASSA Application ID Online

Your Application ID is unique for the SRD R370 grant, Old Age grant, Child Support grant, Disability grant, or any other SASSA social grant. You can retrieve the lost SASSA application ID online by following these steps.

  1. To find your Application ID, visit the SASSA portal: https://srd.sassa.gov.za
  2. Click on the “SASSA Application Status” section.
  3. Enter your South African ID and registered cellphone number.
  4. Verify the SASSA OTP code sent to your mobile number.
  5. Click the check online button to view your SASSA status.
  6. Your SASSA Application ID (App ID) displays in the first line of your status.

Now save your SASSA reference number by writing it down in a notepad, as it may be required for future reference.

Find Your SASSA Reference Number Using USSD Code

You can easily find your SASSA reference number (Application ID) using the USSD code on your phone. You need to dial the code from the phone number linked to your SASSA grant application.

  1. On your mobile phone, dial the USSD code * 120 * 3210 #.
  2. A menu will appear on your phone screen with several options.
  3. Select the option for ‘SASSA Status’ or ‘Application Status.’
  4. Enter your South African ID number when requested.
  5. You will then receive an SMS containing your Application ID with your grant status.

This is an example of a SASSA recipient reference number “555 6677 STATUS” which is unique for each application.

When SASSA Issues You An Application ID

SASSA assigns a unique Application Reference Number as soon as you successfully submit a grant application, whether online via the SRD portal or in person at a local SASSA office. This number is provided through the following channels:

Provided in a Confirmation SMS or Email

After submitting your SRD application, SASSA sends a confirmation message to the registered mobile number or email address associated with your account. This message contains your unique Application ID, which you should save for all future reference.

On Your Application Form and Receipt

For in-person applications, your Application ID is printed directly on your application form and the receipt issued by the SASSA office. This document serves as proof of application and is essential for any follow-up processes, such as an appeal or a court case.

Is the Application ID the Same as My ID Number?

Do I Get a New Application ID When I Appeal?

I see my Application ID, but My Status is Pending, What does that Mean?

Can I Use My Application ID to Check My Grant Balance at an ATM?

To check your grant balance or withdraw funds at an ATM, you will need the PIN linked to your SASSA Gold Card or Postbank Black Card. The Application ID cannot be used for ATM transactions.
