SASSA Child Support Grant Status Check
South African parents can check their Child Grant status in three different ways.
- To check your Child Support Grant status online, visit the SASSA website https://services.sassa.gov.za/
- Dial USSD code * 120 * 3227# or * 120 * 6927# on your cellphone for data-free status checking.
- Send a message “Status” to the authorized SASSA WhatsApp number 082 046 8553 to confirm your child grant status.

When I Receive Child Support Grant
Once your Child Support Grant application is approved for May 2026, payments will start the next month. If you have a bank account, the first payment will be deposited directly on the scheduled SASSA payment date. If you do not have a bank account, you can collect your child grant from the South African Post Office (SAPO) or a retail payment point such as Shoprite, Pick n Pay, or Boxer on the specific payday.
Can I Use My Bank Account for SASSA Child Support Grant Payment?
By choice, you can receive your SASSA Child Support Grant directly into your personal bank account, such as Capitec, TymeBank, Nedbank, or any other South African bank. To link your account for SASSA payments, you need to complete the Change Banking Details process online. Once your banking details are approved by SASSA, your grant will be automatically paid into your account each month.
How to Check SASSA Child Support Grant Balance
You can check your SASSA Child Support Grant balance using a USSD code or your SASSA Postbank card. For a quick balance check, dial * 120 * 3227# or * 120 * 6927# on your cellphone and select the balance option to see your current balance amount. If you have a SASSA card, you can visit a nearby ATM or retailer such as Shoprite, Checkers, Pick n Pay, Boxer, or Usave, use your card, and receive a receipt for your SASSA balance.
SASSA Child Grant Not Received
If your payment for the previous month was not received, please check your status. Your status result will indicate the reason for the unpaid payment. If it shows that your Child Support Grant has been declined, you can submit a SASSA appeal based on the reason provided.
How to Track and Check SASSA Child Support Grant Application Status
If you applied for the Child Support Grant within the last 60 days and have not received a confirmation SMS, you should check your child grant status using the above link to confirm your application exists. If no application is found or no record appears, you need to reapply. However, if you already have an application for your ID number and the status pending, you need to wait while SASSA completes processing until the status changes.
What Happens After the Child’s Age Reaches 18 Years
After a child turns 18, the Child Support Grant stops, and the child is no longer eligible. SASSA only pays the grant until the child’s 18th birthday, not until they complete high school. To continue receiving SASSA financial support, your child can apply for the SRD R350 Grant using their own South African ID. This allows them to receive a monthly financial assistance while continuing their education.
