SASSA Reconsideration
SASSA reconsideration is the process of requesting a review of your declined SRD Grant. You can submit it as an internal appeal, asking SASSA to check your SRD application again because you are eligible and believe the initial rejection was a mistake. This process is your first step toward having your grant reviewed and potentially approved, without needing to escalate to the Independent Tribunal (ITSAA).
SASSA Reconsideration Process
Before submitting a reconsideration, you need to check the exact reason for your decline using the SASSA Status Check online. This helps you know exactly why you were declined, so you can address the reason for your reconsideration. In this process, you will need your South African ID number and the phone number you used for your SRD R370 grant application.

- Visit the SASSA SRD portal: https://srd.sassa.gov.za/appeals/appeal
- Click on the button “Click here to lodge an appeal or check appeal status” to proceed with reconsideration.
- Enter your South African ID number and the registered phone number used for your SRD grant application.
- Then click on the “Send Pin” button. You will receive an OTP code via SMS on your phone.
- Enter the SASSA OTP code into the provided PIN box on the authorized SRD portal.
- You will be directed to the SASSA Reconsideration page.
- Select the specific month for which your grant application was declined.
- Provide your reason for reconsideration that supports your claim and confirms your grant eligibility.
- Now submit the reconsideration form for your declined grant and wait for SASSA’s decision.
SASSA Processing Time for Reconsideration Requests
After you submit your reconsideration request, you have to wait for the final decision. The SASSA review process can take up to 90 working days from the date you submitted it.
You need to keep your phone number active and check your SASSA status regularly during this time to stay informed. If SASSA requires any additional documents, you must submit them through the SASSA portal using the same process described above.
Once your reconsideration is reviewed and approved, you will receive an SMS confirming your SASSA grant is reinstated and active, and your monthly payments will start.
How to Check Your SASSA SRD Reconsideration Status
Checking your reconsideration status helps you be aware of the application progress and can respond quickly if SASSA requires additional information. You can check the reconsideration status for the SRD grant the same way you check your grant payment status on the SASSA website.
- Visit the SASSA website for the status check: https://srd.sassa.gov.za/
- Enter the ID and phone number you used during the reconsideration process.
- Click the status check button to see your reconsideration status online.
Status Results for Reconsideration Application
You can expect one of the following statuses for your reconsideration request, based on its current progress in the SASSA system.
SASSA SRD Reconsideration Approved
Your reconsideration has been successful and approved. This means you will now start receiving the SRD R370 Grant payments. You can check the SASSA payment dates page for the monthly paydays.
Reconsideration Status Pending
This status means your reconsideration request is on the waiting list. SASSA will soon review your request and update your status.
SASSA Reconsideration Status Declined
Your reconsideration request was unsuccessful and has been rejected based on the reason provided in your status details. You can now proceed to lodge a formal appeal.
What to Do If Your R370 Reconsideration Is Declined
If your reconsideration is declined, you can submit another SASSA appeal within 90 days through the authorized SASSA website. This request goes to the ITSAA, not to SASSA. If your circumstances meet the eligibility criteria, the tribunal can overturn the decision and approve your grant.
